PreCon - Future Manufacturing: Predictive Scheduling and Conflict Resolution

Future manufacturing systems have to react more rapidly to changes of the manufacturing process, to reconfigurations due to maintenance or demand fluctuations, and to faults of the involved machines. In order to enable the required flexibility, this project aims at developing and prototyping an extended systems architecture. The major idea is to foresee such potential changes and specify a predictive scheduling for them. This way, an extended manufacturing process scheduler can flexibly reschedule with new processing times, other equipment or with a new ordering of processing steps and resolve conflicts in a seamless way. In particular, this also makes the interaction with upper-layer ERP system more efficient, for example enabling direct reactions at this level to scheduling changes. In order to provide adequate architectural and implementation-level support, an integrated data model for manufacturing data, a service model for complex manufacturing interactions, and a flexible manufacturing process model are to be developed. The approach will be validated by a prototype in close interaction with SAP.
