Adaptive Services for IP Conferencing in Heterogeneous Networking Environments


The heterogeneity of next generation Internet demands high requirements to future distributed applications. Different access technologies like GPRS, UMTS, WLAN, or DSL are unified under the IP layer. Services for IP conferencing have to adapt to different bandwidths and end devices of the session participants. Currently, there are no appropriate existing solutions in the area of multimedia data conferencing (Presentation Sharing, Application Sharing). The research work to be done in the project aims to develop appropriate architectures and methods for adaptive distribution of multimedia content in the context of IP-based telecommunication applications. The collaborative functionalities like Presentation Sharing and Application Sharing are in the focus of the research work. Such collaborative functionalities can be seen as abstract interaction on multimedia content. Content may be adapted and delivered to clients with low bandwidths. The following problems are going to be covered by the project: - Distributed presentations (Presentation Sharing) in heterogeneous application environments - Application Sharing in heterogeneous application environments - Dynamic recognition of bandwidth and bandwidth adaptation - Porting adaptive conferencing solutions to mobile end devices
