This lecture presents groundbreaking research works in the area of operating systems. We focus on both discussing the important research papers and explaining how to identify research problems and how to approach their solution.

The lecture has three parts:

  1. How does systems research work? (2 weeks)
  2. Influential research papers (10 weeks)
  3. Writing of a survey paper on a dedicated research area (3 weeks)
