Chair of HCI

description

The objective of the project The Range-IT is to improve travelling safety for the visually impaired in buildings, by developing a wearable obstacle detection and recognition system through a novel 3D Time-of-Flight camera and a tactile belt. Our main tasks are to develop the main algorithm to detect distant obstacles which may hit the user, recognize specific objects (e.g., stairs, doors) by processing 3D point clouds while moving with a white cane, and to design a multimodal non-visual user interface for informing the blind pedestrian about the updated context information.
