In great dismay, we have to inform you that our chair

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Andreas Pfitzmann passed away on 23 September 2010.

To all of us (current and former members of his research group), Andreas has been a committed leader and circumspect academic adviser for the past 17 years of his service at the Department of Computer Science at TU Dresden. He always listened to our professional and personal questions. Not only we lose a sympathetic professor—who never saw himself as a "boss"—but also a good friend.
Our sympathy and thoughts are with his family.

Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr. Andreas Pfitzmann was head of the privacy and data security group at Technische Universität Dresden. For more than 25 years, his research interests include privacy and multilateral security, mainly in communication networks, mobile computing, and distributed applications. His last research projects were on "anonymous web surfing" (JAP), "Privacy and Identity Managment in Europe for Life" (PrimeLife), and "steganography". Andreas Pfitzmann received diploma and doctoral degrees in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe. He was a member of ACM, IEEE, and GI, where he served as chairman of the Special Interest Group on Dependable IT-Systems for ten years.
